Summary
This course teaches students advanced investigative techniques, including analyzing and weighing evidence and coming to appropriate conclusions.
The online course went through three different iterations where it evolved to fit the needs of multiple organizations, its content adapted for their chosen instructional design software.
Design & Development
LRA Consultants
The online course was first created for LRA Consultants using LearnDash LMS.
It was adapted from an existing in-person course to fit the needs of e-learning students.
During the process feedback was gathered from other LRA employees both during the initial design phase and after a completed draft was assembled.
New material such as quizzes and instructional videos were created to supplement the online course.
Existing materials were often reworked and reevaluated to ensure that students were getting not just a replicated experience from the in person training, but a unique version that was tailored to the online course format.
DBHDS (Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services)
The weighing evidence course was further revised to fit the needs of DBHDS.
It was created and presented in PowerPoint format.
Excel was used to create coding for the quizzes (this was a prerequisite for their own LMS system).
During the development process, stakeholders were consulted. Changes to certain aspects of the material were done at their behest to bring the training into line with DBHDS policy and proffered teaching methodology.
Created using the Agile design philosophy where courses are built one piece at a time and stakeholder feedback is given for each new iteration of the project.
Articulate Storyline
The course was adapted to Articulate Storyline to update it with current instructional design software and philosophy.
